Salt and Pepper Mills


 

Below are a selection of the mills I turn. Those that have no price against them have been designed as commissions which I have not necessarily put up for general sale. 
Some are quirky designs that I personally like rather than commissions.

Salt and pepper mills are available as a single mill or as pairs. Where a price for a pair is shown, single mills can naturally be ordered for less than the amount shown.

The following mill uses a Crushgrind mechanism

They are all made as single mills given that they 
can be used with either salt or pepper.

Private commissions

 

PPM1w.JPG (67069 bytes) I call this the pocket pepper mill and has a threaded base on it. 
I based this on an idea I got from watching Henry Crabbe in the 1980s television series 
"A Pie in the Sky". Henry had a silver pepper mill he kept in his waistcoat pocket but his didn't have the screwed base. 
I thought his would leak pepper when it was in his pocket!!!		 PPM2w.JPG (113084 bytes)


 

This pepper mill is made up from wooden balls the same diameter as regular snooker balls. They were coloured to give the indication of a pile of snooker balls!

Right: a pair of Romsey Strongs beer bottle salt & pepper mills which are based on a full pint bottle.

The colour of the beer bottle cap differentiates between the salt and pepper.

Oilw.JPG (58784 bytes) The mills are based on Olive oil bottles similar to those found in your local supermarket. They are 8½" high

 

I call this mill the "Armless Man!" It has a strip of  Australian red gum laminated through the spalted beech. 
I started out by turning the laminated head on the top of the mill and with the concave part on the base I found 'a body', less arms....		 AMw.JPG (64046 bytes)

The mill is 20mm high and made from masur birch

This wine bottle shaped pepper mill is one of a pair  commissioned by a Wine Company.

It is made from plywood and laminated with 1mm thick polystyrene.
